Another Girl!

So had our scheduled 18 weeks ultrasound today. With prenatal care at the Women's Birth & Wellness Center this is the only ultrasound that I will get unless there is reason to need another. With Arden we only had the one ultrasound so this was our one and possibly only chance to find out the sex of baby #2. I'm way to much of a planner to do the whole "surprise" thing. My parents came up for the ultrasound, as they did for the first, and of course Arden was there too, which made for a very crowded and squirmy (Arden) room full of spectators. And of course baby didn't not want to participate in the show. After a bit of repositioning and a very diligent and patient ultrasound technician, we saw that it's going to be girl #2 for us! (begin deep breathing here for mom) Dave was really wanting a second girl because he's seen 3-5 year old boys first hand and thinks they are exhausting. However, he's never seen TEENAGE girls first hand, but he doesn't seem worried about that. I, however, being the angel that I, was during my teenage years (especially to my mother) know a little more what we might be up against in 11 years- and now times two. I keep telling myself, that my mom is NOW my best friend so in the long run everything will I'm sure by fine as it always seems to be. We already have all the girl stuff, even though we do want to make a point to not have this little one have all hand me downs and the seasons might be slightly off, but that makes it a lot easier financially in the beginning which we need. And how knows maybe they won't both hate me! At least at the same time.

Arden's Going to be a BIG SISTER!

So I've been waiting to tell close friends in person before I announced it over the Internet, but we're expecting baby #2 in August of this year. I took a lot longer then I thought it would to play phone tag with friends, so I'm already 14 weeks along. Here are the answers to some commonly asked questions that I'm getting already:

I'm feeling fine. I was a little queasy for awhile during the 1st trimester- more so then with Arden and was REAL tired but I'm feeling lots better now.

I'm starting to hit that "I look fat not pregnant phase" which according to most people comes a lot quicker the second pregnancy.

Yes, we will be finding out what we're having. We have an ultrasound scheduled for St. Patrick's Day. Dave wants to name the baby Patrick then if we're having a boy- that won't be happening.

I'm still in freak out mode, mostly. But I'm assured by other second time moms that this is normal. I mean 1 kid is easy, 2 kids is no joke.

Dave will be getting snipped as soon as this baby comes out. I'm not kidding. His sperm is way too potent. He's pushing for a possible third, but I have no desire to be outnumbered by my children and never have. He won't win this one.

Melissa's Trip to Colorado!

My best friend Brittny offered me a much needed vacay away from life and the day to day with Arden and got me a frequent flyer ticket to come visit her in Colorado! After some scheduling with my Mom regarding childcare coverage for Arden and a long weekend spent at my parents house so it didn't feel like I was going to be away from her for a whole week, I was off. It was a great trip! Also my first away from Arden that long (5 days) which I'll be honest was A LOT harder then I expected. Our friend, Becky was also meeting us out there so it was a fun reunion for all of us. The first day, we ate lunch in Boulder and then drove up to a lookout over Boulder from Flagstaff Mountain. Then we headed back to her and Gabe's super adorable little house in Longmont, just outside of Boulder. Brittny and I caught up over pizza and then I crashed while she went to pick Becky up. The next day the four of us went for a 4 mile hike up Rabbit Mountain, close to Longmont. Then we went to movies (a much missed treat for a mom!) We then headed home and made a yummy dinner and celebrated Brittny's dog, Duncan's fifth birthday. Brittny celebrates all of her animals birthdays- this is maybe the 3rd or 4th party I've been to. Then the next day, Brittny, Becky & I headed to Rocky Mountain National Park which is about 45 minutes from Longmont. It was gorgeous! The mountains were beautiful! We took a short hike around a frozen lake and then drove around and found some elk! We then checked out the Stanley Hotel which apparently is the hotel that inspired Stephen King to write the "The Shining". Then we headed back home and made yummy lentil soup and watched Grey's Anatomy on the computer- which is my idea of a perfect night!Saturday we drove into Denver. Becky is dating Adam Scone who plays the organ for one of our favorite bands- Mofro who were opening at the Fillmore for Galactic and the Mile High Mardi Gras celebration (hence the masks in the below picture). Mofro played an awesome set, except for the fact that it was WAY too short. I'm not a huge fan of Galactic, and I was tired to I headed back to the hotel early. I'm getting too old to stay up until 2 am! Sunday we killed some time walking at the 16th St. Mall in Denver before I had to get to the airport for my flight. All in all it was a good vacation, I miss both my man and my baby tons, though!
